SureSmile vs. Invisalign: Which Corrective Aligner Is Right for You?
Corrective aligners are a great alternative to traditional braces. But which brand is the best choice for you?
While most are similar, there are some differences to note when considering such a large investment of your time and money.
Two brands we use are SureSmile and Invisalign. Here are some similarities and differences to help you choose!
SureSmile aligners
SureSmile was founded in 1998. These corrective aligners use a PVC- and BPA-free plastic material called Essix® ACE to make their aligners. Essix® ACE is known for its superior clarity and is durable enough to hold its shape for 14 days.
SureSmile pros and cons
They’re customizable: One advantage of SureSmile is they offer the ability to choose the trim line of the aligner. You can choose from scalloped or straight depending on your personal preference.
SureSmile cost: Treatment cost and treatment time vary, depending on how long your case will take and how many sets of trays are necessary to achieve the desired results. That being said, SureSmile costs around $4,000.
Aesthetically pleasing: SureSmile aligners are nearly undetectable and offer patients a way to straighten their teeth without drawing attention to their mouths
Invisalign aligners
Invisalign was founded in 1997 and quickly became a household name. Invisalign uses their patented SmartTrackâ„¢ material; a multilayer polyurethane blended plastic that creates a nearly invisible aligner.
Invisalign pros and cons
SmartForce Attachments: SmartForce attachments are small tooth-colored shapes attached to your teeth before or during your Invisalign treatment. Your corrective aligners fit smoothly and tightly around them, so they’re barely noticeable. Not everyone who uses Invisalign will need SmartForce attachments.
Durability: Invisalign’s SmartTrack™ material is durable yet slightly thicker and therefore more noticeable in your mouth.
Invisalign cost: Like SureSmile, cost varies with each treatment plan. Invisalign treatment costs between $3,000-$7,000.
Similarities
Both Invisalign and SureSmile require you to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, and both usually switch to a new set of trays after two weeks.
They both take less time to complete treatment than traditional braces, shortening the treatment time from about 24 months with traditional orthodontics to about 6-12 months, depending on your case.
SureSmile and Invisalign, like most other corrective aligners, are removable. This means it’s generally easier to keep your teeth clean while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Traditional braces are more difficult to clean around and tend to make teeth more prone to stain.
